Bill & LeRay Wilkie

Salina, Kansas

Bill and LeRay moved from Lincoln, KS to Salina, KS in 1976. They graduated from square dance lessons in March of 1982 and danced until health issues kept them from dancing. They became members of the Salina Twirlers in 1982 and remained members through 2019; they also joined KSDA the same year, LeRay is still a member.

LeRay and Bill were highly active in the square dance activity; they were the Secretary of the 57th National Square Dance Convention® held in Wichita, Kansas in June 2008. They were the Corporate Secretary of the 57th National Square Dance Convention® Promenade on the Prairie. Bill & LeRay were secretary of KSDA for 10 years; Secretary of the District for one year; President of The Salina Twirlers in 1985 and Dancer Coordinator of the Kansas State Square Dance Convention in 1987.

Bill and LeRay attended the Kansas State Square Dance Convention from 1982 through 2014; LeRay attended through 2017. Bill & LeRay have attended the Oklahoma Square Dance Federation Dance in November from 1982 until 2014 missing only once or twice.

Bill and LeRay attended 14 National Square Dance Conventions; they also attended the Texas Advanced and Challenge Convention for several years and the National Advanced and Challenge Convention for several years.

LeRay was a Make N Take presenter at the 62nd and the 63rd National Square Dance Conventions®. Bill helped with the Education Committee and LeRay helped dancers make greeting cards.

LeRay has worked for the Saline County for 33 years and still working for them today.

A favorite pastime was watching NASCAR Racing. LeRay’s hobby is making greeting cards; someday she hopes to catch up. Bill passed away on June 18, 2015. In June of 2018 their only child, Rodney passed away leaving a daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
